I wanted to introduce to my little Mad Hatter figurine. As far as I know, these are not available for purchase as they were 'freebies' at the cinema for the release of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

There was a special offer on at the time, if you buy your weight in popcorn (which I do anyway) you can get the Alice refill cup and there were 4 to choose from.

Of course I chose the Mad Hatter, the figurine was sort of a 'topper' on the refill cup. I will try to find it to show you, but I'm curious did anybody else have this offer in their local cinema?

Check out this amazing footage from the tea party scene in Disney's animated Alice in Wonderland, alongside crude footage of the actors from the studio.

Lostvocals4 on Youtube has synched it together and says:

Walt Disney often filmed actors as models for his animated features. What's surprising is that the audio from this crude footage for "Alice in Wonderland" is the actual audio used in the film. When Ed Wynn was brought back in to the recording studio to re-do his lines, the reading was not as good as the reference tests, so the test audio was used for the film.

I've synched up the test and the released film. with black placed where edits were made.

UPDATE: Disney also made a Limited Edition Queen of Hearts Doll - 17'' - which is sort of a mix between the classic Queen of Hearts from the animated version and the Tim Burton Red Queen version. She too looks articulated and has dramatic makeup similar to Helena Bonham Carter, with the heart shaped, red lips and wicked looking eyes (love the Disney villain style eyebrows).

Imagine my pure and utter excitement yesterday when I bumped into these 2 Mad Hatters at the Las Palmas carnival!

I just think it's Wonderful how their costumes have been created, bear in mind that there were more than 2 of these crazy hatters, there was a whole group of them around 30 in total!

You can see they have gone for variations in jacket colours, but also kept the key pieces of the Mad Hatter's costume, such as the hat (obviously), the orange hair, pale makeup and the 'cotton reel belt'.

I thought this was rather cool and I'm sure you will too! Someone on Tumblr has compressed frames from whole movies and made art barcodes with it. The arty person used the 1951 animated version of Alice in Wonderland, which made this image.

You can sort of see Alice in the yellow chunk, which I presume is her hair and the purples could be the flowers? Anyhow, this is an amazing piece of shall we say, subliminal pop art?

The only 'real' location used for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, has experienced their busiest year ever since the release of the movie and has a wonderful exhibition.

Antony house, an 18th century mansion in Cornwall, South England, will be most recognised for the garden party in which Alice was proposed to.

Since the release of the film, Antony House have embraced the increase in visitors, even offering a special 'Alice tour where you can explore the rooms used in the movie, tea parties, games of croquet you may even see the Mad Hatter!

This is definitely on my list of places to visit when I am next in England. For more information visit:

As you can see these Vinylmation Alice in Wonderland figures have been based on the original Disney animation, but it will be very interesting to see Tim Burton versions of these figures too. The figures themselves are in the shape of Mickey Mouse but with the designs of the Dormouse and The Mad Hatter sort of squished into the shape to fit.

The Mad Hatter's head is further down the body, so that his hat fits on the head of the figurine. if you are looking for something special but a little bit different for your Alice in Wonderland collection then it's worth noting that these Disney figures are Limited Editon of 1200.

In the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland, there is a scene where Alice makes it into The Red Queen's rose garden. Alice has just eaten some carrot cake and has outgrown her clothes. She introduces herself to the Red Queen as 'Um from Umbridge' and the Queen asks her servants to clothe Alice and use the curtains if they must.

This is the infamous Alice 'UM' Dress or Red court Dress, which many people have been trying to find online.

The toys are back in the third installment of Toy Story! Toy Story 3 looks to be the Summer box office hit of the year, with all our favourite characters such as Jessie, Woody, Mr. Potato Head, Buzz Lightyear and this year Barbie and Ken get a look in.

The other great thing is that Disney have not missed this opportunity to bring us the best Toy Story 3 merchandise you could think of. Not just toys! There are Toy Story 3 t-shirts, pyjamas, games, luggage, costumes, bedding, plus tees for the grown up Toy Story fans too!

Alice in Wonderland 3D - mini review

As you may know I just got back from a trip to UK where I finally saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D. Prior to seeing the movie, I watched every morsel of footage and trailers that I could find on youtube, although my other half warned me against it as it would spoil the film. Nothing I repeat nothing could have spoiled this movie for me and even after watching all the footage, there was still a lot more to the movie than I thought.

The photo above is me after the movie, standing next to the cut out poster of the cast. This was the first movie I ever saw in 3D so imagine my excitement! Obviously a week has gone by since I had the pleasure of watching, but the things that stick in my mind are the Mad Hatter's eyes. When Johnny Depp spoke in interviews about Mad Hatter being like a mood ring and you can totally see his emotions, that was clear in the movie.

Mad Hatter's eyes changed colour to a deep orange, almost evil tone as he recalls his past or someone angers him. His bow tie also moves depending on his emotions. I love the way Alice rebelled against everything that she was "supposed" to do in that era. Most thought she was mad, when in fact she was suppressing her ideas and goes on to be successful, which is a great message for little girls.

I really don't think this is a movie for very young children, but then it all depends on how the child is with other movies. Personally I watched lot's of horror films as a child, "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Friday 13th" - mostly before the age of 10 and I'm still a horror movie fan. My 5 year old nephew might have nightmares after Alice in Wonderland if he were to see it, especially with the 3D images that look like they will hit you in the face plus I don't think he would keep the glasses on. There are many ambiguous messages in this film so it will appeal to different ages, and some will go right over your head.

The Cheshire Cat is a total star and there's no wonder there are so many fan pages for him on Facebook, he is totally charming, as is the Mad Hatter. Anne Hathaway plays a great part as The White Queen and even has a dark side to her apparent angelic self. When the movie finishes, stay seated for some fun mushroom 3D effects and Avril Lavigne's "Alice" song.

I really don't want to tell you what happens in the movie, more what I thought of it as I know there are still plenty of people who haven't managed to see it yet. AMAZING!!! I will see it as many times as I can in 3D. Here in Spain we are still anticipating the release of Alice - 16th April 2010. It's a date!

Wonderland Costumes on Sorority Life Facebook Game

I squealed in delight when I noticed my favourite online game was participating in the Alice in Wonderland madness. Sorority Life is a statistical game (similar to Mafia Wars but more pink and fluffy and without the assassinations) playable via Facebook or Myspace produced by the company Playdom and has an amazing following on the net.

The game basically follows your character through a University Sorority House where you can earn outfits, complete events and so on. The outfits and items you pick up strengthen your house and making you unstoppable.

So my excitement peaked when I saw these 2 outfits available on SL today - Wonderland Dress and Queen of Hearts/Red Queen Dress. You can buy these outfits with your BP or Brownie Points and your online character can also be ready for the important date at the cinema to see the movie. Both dresses are great graphical replicas of that worn by Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowska.

UK Cinemas to Boycott Alice in Wonderland

News just in, two of the biggest UK cinemas Odeon and Vue have had a big dispute with Disney resulting in the boycott of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie. The fallout comes after Disney announced to release the film on DVD 5 weeks earlier than usual and so 40% of British cinemas will not be showing the predicted blockbuster.

Despite all this the Royal world premiere in London's Leicester Square will still take place in an Odeon cinema on Thursday, "out of respect for the charity that will benefit, the British Royal Family who will be attending and all the film talent involved in the making of the film." says a spokesperson.
